Pokki breaks 2 Million active Users per month

When Pokki left beta, what feels like just a moment ago, the company announced that it had some 1 million active monthly users. This morning the company, a product of Sweet Labs, has announced that its active tally is now a full 2 million users, and that it is ready to brave Windows 8′s waters.

What Pokki is offering is a return of the Windows 8 Start Button, along with its blend of apps, app store, and now, Start Menu functionality that it has baked especially for those confused or wistful for what was.

Pokki is an app ecosystem, delivery system, Task Bar member, and general bet that in a Windows environment users will react well to a lightweight system of applications that have the feel of mobile apps – bring simple app power to users, and they will flock, is Pokki’s bet. So far, it is succeeding.

Still, the company faces risks – as TNW has noted, Pokki is making a wager that few would, betting on the desktop environment over mobile. If users choose the built-in Windows Store over what Pokki offers, the company could run into real issues.

And yet, Microsoft itself runs certain risks with Windows 8 by removing user interface features that many have relied on since Windows 95, such as the Start Button – in its various permutations - which Pokki brings back.

The company has redesigned its interface to sport not only app shortcuts, but buttons that take users to parts of Windows that they are used to accessing in that specific bit of pixelspace. Think of a quick link to the Control Panel.

Pokki continues to grow as its app brings in news users. To it Windows 8 is a fertile landscape. If it can hit a critical mass of users is the obvious question. Let’s see if it can reach 5 million active monthly users by year’s end. If so, Pokki is a company that bet against the conventional wisdom and won.

•  Once in type “proxycfg -u” (without the quotes) if you are using Windows XP,or “netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie” (without quotes) when using Windows Vista/Windows 7 and press enter.

Megaupload which is one of the good site for the file sharing is shutdown thurstday.The filesharing site Megaupload.com has been taken down by the FBI as the Justice Department unsealed an indictment charging seven people associated with the site.
Four of the people named—including Dotcom, Ortmann, Megaupload.com chief marketing officer Finn Batao, and developer Bram van der Kolk—are in custody, arrested in New Zealand today, according to the FBI. The FBI worked with authorities from New Zealand, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, the UK and the Phillipines, and in concert with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement on the case.

The indictment charges that the "Mega conspiracy" has for more than five years operated websites that willfully distributed pirated movies, often before their theatrical release, and other illegal copies of copyrighted works, earning the company over $175 million in illegal profits through advertising revenue. Megaupload is also charged with money laundering by paying uploaders through an "uploader reward program," and paying other companies to host the pirated content.

As of the afternoon of January 19, the site for Megaupload.com had not been redirected, and requests simply timed out. Ars will provide additional coverage as details develop.

Our brain can not handle more then 150 friends on Facebook-Must read

Some people having many friends on their Facebook profile but some expert claims that they may not be able to remember or manage more than 150 friends in real life.

Robin Dunbar, professor of Evolutionary Anthropology at Oxford University, falls back on a theory he developed in the 1990s, known as 'Dunbar's number,' to prove his point.

The theory claims that that the size of our neocortex - the part of the brain used for conscious thought and language - limits us to managing social circles of around 150 friends, no matter how sociable we are.

The figure was reached after Dunbar checked how many people contacted at least once a year in a variety of societies, ranging from neolithic villages to modern office environments.

Now he has applied his theory to studying social networking websites.

And, he insists that the "Facebook effect" has hardly had an impact on the size of social groupings.

"The interesting thing is that you can have 1,500 friends but when you actually look at traffic on sites, you see people maintain the same inner circle of around 150 people that we observe in the real world," Timesonline quoted Dunbar as saying.

He added: "People obviously like the kudos of having hundreds of friends but the reality is that they're unlikely to be bigger than anyone else's.

"There is a big sex difference though ... girls are much better at maintaining relationships just by talking to each other. Boys need to do physical stuff together."

Dunbar's study is expected to publish later this year.
